The Micromis Power Shield extension is an additional board that extends the capabilities of the Micromis Base V1 platform. With it, you can connect an external power supply or battery to power both the Micromis platform itself and any external devices connected to the overlay. To this end, the Power Shield overlay has two relays with screw outputs that allow you to control devices powered by more than 20V connected to the overlay. In addition, there are also two controllable voltage outputs from the power supply, which allow external peripherals such as LED strips, motors, water pumps or external circuits to be powered by a voltage supplied by an external power source.
To ensure safe operation, the Power Shield overlay uses optocouplers to control relays and voltage outputs. Optocouplers are special electronic components that are able to convert an electrical signal into an optical signal and vice versa. As a result, the signal controlling the relays and voltage outputs is isolated from the rest of the circuit, preventing unwanted signals and interference from entering and increasing the operational safety of the entire system.
The Power Shield overlay is an extremely useful extension for the Micromis Base V1 platform, which allows you to connect an external source and control the supply voltage to external devices. These solutions are extremely useful when developing Smart Home projects.
